Mrs. Adams' Class Guidelines
Welcome to Mrs. Adams’ Math Class!
Classroom Expectations
1. Be prepared and on time.
2. Respect yourself and others.
3. Be involved and do your work.
4. Follow directions the first time.
5. Be kinder than necessary
Protect the Number One Priority: Students need to be free to learn and teachers need to be free to teach.
Practice- 20%
Students will be given work to practice the math skills they are learning. The practice will exist in many forms such as, warm-ups, Evidence, entrance tickets, exit tickets, and activities. Warm-ups will be given every day, kept by the student until the end of the week, and turned in on Friday or the last day of the week. Evidence pieces will be given throughout a unit and must be completed in order for students to take a Progress Check. Students will grade, record, and correct, when needed, all Evidence pieces. The purpose of all practice is to check for understanding and make sure students are on the right path to mastery of the content. The majority of Practice will be graded on completion.
Progress Checks- 25%
Progress Checks (quizzes) will be given throughout each unit. Students will be given a Unit Calendar with dates of each Progress Check. All Evidence pieces leading up to a Progress Check must be completed before a Progress Check can be taken. If a student has not completed the Evidence, they will be given a 0 for the Progress Check and will have 1 week from the scheduled Progress Check to finish Evidence and take the Progress Check, which will replace the grade of 0. After 1 week, the Progress Check will remain a 0, unless excessive absences have caused a delay.
Projects- 15%
As part of PBL, each unit will have a project or product. Students will be given criteria and a rubric at the beginning of each unit. One project for each team will be turned in, however, students will be graded individually on the project.
Unit Tests- 40%
Unit tests will be given for each unit. Students will be given a test review for all Unit Tests. Test retakes will not be given. Students can raise test scores by completing Extra Credit.
Extra Credit
Extra Credit will be given throughout the six weeks. It will be assigned to the class as a whole and not on an individual basis. Extra credit points will be added to the lowest Progress Check or Unit Test grade at the end of the six weeks.
Textbooks
Textbooks will be accessible online by the student. A class set of books will also be provided to use in the classroom.
